Savioke CEO Wins Prestigious IERA Award

We’re honored to announce that our Founder & CEO, Steve Cousins received the IEEE/IRA Invention and Entrepreneurship in Robotics and Automation (IERA) Award this week at the IEEE Robotics and Automation conference in Singapore.

The IERA Award recognizes Savioke's Relay robot as an invaluable contribution to the field of robotics. Steve was specifically honored for “his achievements in developing core technology in professional service robotics to a readiness level which enables a 24/7 operation in public, human-inhabited environments”.

Founded in 2004, the IERA Award highlights and honors the achievements of inventors with value-creating ideas and entrepreneurs who propel those ideas into world-class products. The IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (IEEE/RAS) and the International Federation of Robotics (IFR) jointly sponsor the award, underlining a shared determination to promote stronger collaboration between science and industry in robotics.

Savioke is honored to receive this illustrious recognition.

Relay Gets Rockstar Treatment at Black Girls Code Robot Expo 2017

Move over Justin Bieber--Relay, our amazing delivery robot, thrilled a packed crowd of very excited young technology enthusiasts this past week at the Black Girls Code Robot Expo in Dallas.

 The girls cheered and clapped as Relay came on stage and Savioke regional manager Rob Bueller brought robotics to life through an interactive demo and enthusiastic Q&A session. There were dozens of photo and video opps and individualized personal deliveries of BGC swag for a few lucky participants.

After the presentation, the girls got to see Relay up close--swarming and hugging him as he meandered around the campus.

BGC Robot Expo is a fun and captivating educational experience where girls learn about robots through hands-on activities using Lego WeDo and EV3 kits. The recent Dallas event, featuring the first live Relay robot demonstration for Black Girls Code, introduced the girls to more sophisticated robots and showed them real-world applications and uses for robotics.  

Black Girls Code, founded in 2011, is a global organization that introduces girls of color aged 7-17 to technical skills and careers. In 2012 - its first full year of programming - BGC engaged, educated and empowered 800 girls in 13 cities across the globe.

 Savioke is delighted to partner with Black Girls Code, a transformative global movement dedicated to providing girls of color with the skills and inspiration to become technology leaders of tomorrow. Savioke CTO Tessa Lau Honored as a Silicon Valley Woman of Influence

We’re proud to announce that Tessa Lau, our CTO and Chief Robot Whisperer, has been named a 2017 Woman of Influence by The Silicon Valley Business Journal. Tessa will be honored at a gala awards ceremony on May 18th alongside the other winners of this award. The Silicon Valley Business Journal chose 100 women who are making an impact on their industries and communities from among hundreds of applicants. Winners hail from companies as diverse as Microsoft, PayPal, VISA, Habitat for Humanity and Cisco, as well as promising startups.

As much as we’re thrilled that Tessa has been recognized for her numerous achievements in robot-human interaction, artificial intelligence, and robot design, we’d also like to call out all the other incredible women on the Savioke team. In an era where Facebook has about 15% women in technology roles and Twitter has just 10%, Savioke already has nearly 30% women on its tech team - and we’re committed to moving up that needle. That’s why we actively participate in STEM education initiatives for girls, like the Black Girls Code event we’ll be attending with a Relay robot on May 20th.

We offer our congratulations to Tessa for her tireless work, excellent technical prowess, and inspirational leadership. Look out for more Savioke female tech team members to win such honors in the years to come!
